Everyone has long since migrated away from the DOS versions of Duke to the ports.  So, if you want players to play against online, you'll have to install a port.  The most played port is xDuke, but hDuke is an improved version of xDuke with team play that you should use instead.  hDuke, xDuke, and EDuke32 can be played on Meltdown, YANG, Kali, DukesterX, and Dukonnector.  Also, Blood and Shadow Warrior support have been added to Meltdown. Overall, Meltdown has the best features, is free, and has a lot of upside. Read the Meltdown Tutorial for more information.
